Fundraisers’ stories

In memory of Stephen Hampson Stephen's family have donated to Yellow Submarine in his memory. Stephen loved music, social events, going out for food and drink (especially sausage rolls and fishcakes) and staying up late. Stephen had Down's Syndrome and learning difficulties and lived life to the full right up to his early death in January 2018. He lived in North Wales with his mum and dad and loved coming to visit his sister and brother-in-law in Oxford, and they always made sure to pop into Yellow Submarine for a drink while he was here. He would have loved the thought of a donation in his name to help support you in your work with young people like him!

Breckon & Breckon held an office cake sale, donating the proceeds to Yellow Submarine!

The brilliant dancers from the Oxford Brookes Dance Society donated the proceeds from their end of year show to Yellow Submarine.

Caroline took on the impressive task of completing 2 marathons in 2 weeks (Brighton & London) raising money for Yellow Submarine. Such an amazing achievement!

The Co-operative Childcare Oxford train station have chosen Yellow Submarine as their charity of the year for 2015-16. They're doing loads to support us including donning their festive knits to raise money!

The Cornerstone Coffee House in Long Hanborough donate their proceeds to local charities throughout the year and very kindly chose Yellow Submarine!

Bussell House raised money through a number of non-school uniform days. Thanks girls for your continued support!

Harry one of our members gave up two of his afternoons over October Half Term 2016 to raise money for us by playing the street organ at Millets Farm, raising an awesome £46.36 - Thanks Harry!

Staff of James Cowper Kreston raised an epic £450 through their quiz night in aid of us!

Kingston Bagpuize Drama Group hosted a Murder Mystery Night, during which they held a raffle raising £150 for us!

The amazing organisers of LibFest chose us as one of their charities for the 2017 festival, and we were given a cheque for an incredible £11,000!

The wonderful Collins family popped into our Witney cafe to present us with a cheque; the money was raised by their dad, Malcolm, who did a sponsored headshave for us in early 2015. Sadly since then Malcolm has lost his battle with cancer and so his family came to present the cheque to us in his memory. A huge thank you to the Collins family and supporters for your most generous support of Yellow Submarine we are so grateful, and especially to Malcolm who was such kind and generous man.

Mette & Simone; friends of Yellow Submarine raised £220 by selling their handmade knitting wares to the public!

Michelle raised funds for us by tackling the Oxford Half Marathon 2017, cheered on by her children.

Mick tackled the Yorkshire 3 peak challenge to raise funds for Yellow Submarine. Mick hiked an impressive 25 miles in 12 hours.

During Summer 2016 NCS held a festival celebrating inclusivity raising £137.97.

Nick & Madie spent two months completing load of challenges to raise money for us. including Hike for Life, Bike Oxford, Carterton Triathlon and Snowdon marathon. Raising an awesome £347.50!

A huge thank you to our friends at OGRI Motorcycle Club who raised an amazing £500 for Yellow Submarine Charity. Anthony & Sarah went along to collect the (big!) cheque at the 2015 OGRI summer rally.

The society raised money for us by hosting a cake sale during Occupational Therapy Awareness week.

Donated the proceeds from their St George’s Day Parade to Yellow Submarine! Raising a great £244.40!!

Staff at Oxford University Press’s Oxford office collected over £400 for Yellow Submarine, as part of their Advent calendar Christmas raffle. Tickets were sold by staff during lunch-times at the end of November, with the raffle draws taking place every day throughout December. Yellow Submarine was selected by OUP’s Social Committee after it was nominated by a member of staff.

Oxfordshire Apprenticeships celebrated National Apprenticeship Week in 2016 with a competition to test the baking skills of local Apprentices. They raised an epic £192.84!!

Pedro an amazing cafe customer decided to support us by climbing Mount Elbrus at a staggering 5,642 metres high!! Raising an amazing £3,400 on his way up!

Royds Withy King chose Yellow Submarine as their charity of the year for 2015-2017, and raised £17,500 during this time. Fund-raising activities included monthly dress down days, an auction of promises, raffles and a sponsored cycle ride to Paris.

The staff at Wadham College held a quiz, of which all the proceeds went to Yellow Submarine!

Our friends, Toni and Daisy, from Locale took on a 10K filled with mud, ice-cold water and obstacles... raising money for Yellow Submarine along the way!

Team Yellow Sub - made up of our cafe manager Paul, activity managers Lisa and Adam and Yellow Submarine supporter Casey - tackled Tough Mudder in August 2015, a 12 mile obstacle race full of mud, ice, barbed wire, walls and electric shocks, to fundraise for us!

Over the Easter weekend the Brilliant B Team (George Barnicoat & Steve Backshall) tackled the Devizes to Westminster challenge raising money for Yellow Submarine & the World Land Trust.

The lovely Parker ladies, relatives of James, climbed to the summit of Mount Snowdon all to raise money for Yellow Submarine #subsabovesea

We've been chosen as The Queen's College JCR's local charity partner - over the 2015 summer term they raised an amazing £1,000 for Yellow Submarine, through events and donations.

Yellow Submarine has been The Queens College JCR chosen charity for the past 2 years and over that time they've supported us in many different way. Over that time they've raised an amazing £1,730 (and counting!) as well as hosting MNC for a movie night. Most recently they hosted a bake sale in our honour!

Members of the Pathways groups at the Welcome Church in Witney raised an amazing £355.80 by doing a sponsored walk for us.

Tom took a piece of his brothers artwork and had some t-shirts printed with the design. He secretly sold these t-shirts and surprised us by raising and epic £300!

The amazing Frambo, who has Cerebral Palsy and is a big supporter of Yellow Submarine, set himself the magnificent challenge of cycling from Oxford to Paris on his three wheeled bike, he managed to raise a staggering £6,614.56!!!

A massive thank you to the UK Atomic Energy Authority who chose Yellow Submarine Charity as one of the charities supported by their Culham Santa Charity 5k fun run just before Christmas. Looks like they had lots of festive fun!

Wadham College held a Christmas raffle with all proceeds being donated to Yellow Submarine.

The customers of Waitrose in Witney and Wantage nominated Yellow Submarine as one of their monthly Community Matter charities.

We’re very grateful to Ray Collins and his team for choosing Yellow Submarine as one of the charities supported by the 2015 Wantage Carnival.

A group of Year 8's participated in the "Fiver Challenge" which involved starting new businesses with an initial investment of £5. The money all the businesses made was donated to Yellow Submarine - great work from all the budding entrepreneurs!

A team at Cholsey's Barn Fitness Club completed an incredible 24 hour spinathon in aid of Yellow Submarine!

Browsers, in Porthmadog Wales, have been very generous fundraisers for Yellow Submarine over the last few years, via a collection tin, plastic bag receipts and the owners' generosity.

Francis 'Frambo', who has Cerebral Palsy, set himself the challenge of swimming a mile and donated the money he raised to Yellow Submarine. He set himself an even bigger challenge for 2015 - Tour de Frambo!

Hannah set up her very own yard sale, and donated all money raised from the sale of items to us!

James got drenched and completed the Ice Bucket Challenge in October 2014 to fund raise for Yellow Submarine!

James ran the Brighton in marathon not just once but twice for Yellow Submarine!

This awesome young man came to our cafe and was so inspired to help that he cycled 10 laps of local park, raising over £50!

Yellow Submarine's Activity Leader Lisa ran the Oxford Half Marathon in a very drizzly October 2013, to fundraise for our 'Compass Project' sheltered work programme!

Neil, dad of Yellow Submarine member James, ran the Reading Half marathon in support of Yellow Submarine.

Patric, along with friends Olly and Harry, conquered the Monster Race - an obstacle and mud filled challenge all in support of Yellow Submarine.

Rachel set herself the challenge of swimming the River Dart 10k Open Water Race all to raise funds for Yellow Submarine.
