Yellow Submarine Holidays
Yellow Submarine Holidays was started in April 2009 to provide supported holidays and activities for people with learning disabilities. It operates nationally with dual aims. One is to provide people with learning disabilities more choice in holiday options and greater opportunities to travel with friends. The other aim is to give young members of the public training and volunteering opportunities to support this vulnerable group on our outings both for the immediate gain of assisting positively and so they are better equipped to promote community cohesion in the long term. Our model is that we produce a brochure of holidays and activities that can be signed up for by anyone interested. We take groups of five, sometimes six service users together. We will normally bring two of our staff and at least two volunteers from the local community on each trip. Additional to our calendar of events if there’s a group of five or so people who want to holiday together, we will organise bespoke trips which can be entirely support-user led giving total choice of destinations.
