About Yellow Submarine Holidays
Yellow Submarine provides opportunities for people with learning disabilities and their families and carers to benefit from subsidised respite breaks. We organise supported day activities and residential holidays for people with learning disabilities and make use of this respite time to facilitate friendships, build confidence, teach new skills and of course, provide an enjoyable and memorable experience.
Over our first ‘pilot’ year we have been a primarily volunteer run organisation, founded on the experiences of respite & learning disabilities within the founder’s family. We have achieved excellent results. We have supported a total of 42 places for people with learning disabilities on residential respite breaks to nine different locations. We have run various day activities, including a gardening project. Through these projects we have provided families and carers with over 4000 hours of important respite time.
The feedback for Yellow Submarine’s work has been excellent and at the beginning of 2010 a committee was formed, trustees and directors were appointed and a new governing document was adopted which has since enabled us to register as a charity (no. 1136735).
